Links-R-Us, Vol. 24

Welcome to another Link-Friday post.  I know it’s been forever since last I posted, but this week I really couldn’t let slip by.

Our first link is to an article about a true American hero.  It’s about a soldier that was nearly killed in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber.  This is the story of his purple heart being awarded and his actions afterwards.  Enjoy.

Heroes, Part 2

Ten years ago last month one of my childhood heroes died.  I haven’t seen any articles in the press about it which I guess is rather consistent with today’s media.  You would, however, think that this particular person would have at least had created some type of “In Memory of” piece about him based on the number of lives he touched.  The man I’m referring to is Mister Rogers.

Welcome to another Link-Friday post.  It’s been a horrendously long time since last I posted anything (thanks a lot lingering cold that makes me sooooo exhausted…) so I thought I would get back into the swing of things with a few links…  Oh, yeah…  Seeing how the voting thing seemed to be a HUGE failure I’ve abandoned it until such time as one of you wonderful readers wants to reinstitute the process.  With that being said, enjoy the following links…

First up we have an article that has pulled at my heart strings since I read the first version of it last night.  Suffice it to say I think it is one of the most beautiful, though tragic, things I have read as of late.  It’s the story of a four year old girl who helped to save her younger sister from a car accident that killed their mother.  I hope and pray that my children would take care of each other like this if the need would ever arise.  Quite an amazing little girl…

We all have heroes from our youth.  Ok, let me rephrase that.  We all categorize the people that helped to create who we are into some form of hierarchy.  We have the true heroes who put their lives on the line such as soldiers, astronauts, firemen and police officers.  We have more cerebral heroes who teach us to strive to become more than we are such as Jesus Christ, Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, Captain Moroni and my son Royce.  And we have the heroes and legends from our youth such as friends who did legendary things (i.e. Benny “The Jet” Rodrigues), teachers who helped us grow, and movie makers that changed our perspective on life as they awed and wowed us with their movie magic.

Welcome to another Link-Friday!  I was looking at the list of links that I keep on the back burner and noticed that the list is, like, huge!  When I first started to compile links for Link-Friday I would always have a hard time coming up with five (why I chose five I will never know…).  Now I’m having a hard time whittling the list down to five.  So, welcome to our first Link-Friday Link Clearinghouse!  So, I’m going to spit out as many one or two liners and links as will fit in this little post.  So, with luck on my side, here goes…

Heros, Part 1

Today I want to talk about one of the most amazing people that I know:  my son Royce.

Since birth, Royce has been plagued with various problems.  “Problems” is probably the wrong word to use – challenges would probably be more like it.  When Royce was born his bilirubin values were abnormal and ultimately went up to dangerous levels.  We were having him tested every day for nearly three weeks (his poor heals were so sore and he hated anyone touching his feet for the longest time after that) and spent almost a week with him under the “bili-lights” to bring his jaundice levels down.

Welcome once again to another Link-Friday!  Looking back on previous posts I have discovered that almost half of the Link-Friday posts have missed the mark by at least one day.  So, I am officially declaring any day that a Link-Friday post comes out is an honorary Friday.  And with all that being said, on to todays links.

My first link is to a story I had not heard about.  My brother who stayed with us for Christmas told me about this one.  Apparently Bank of America tried to foreclose on a couple that had paid cash on their home and did not have a mortgage.  After hearing the case, the court sided with the couple (becuase they had never had a mortgage with Bank of America) and it ordered BofA to pay for court costs.  Well, when BofA did not pay up the couple’s attorney showed up with the sheriff and foreclosed on the local branch – seizing all the assets of the bank.  Movers were standing by with the sheriff and his deputies until an hour later the manager gave the couple a check for the amount owed.  The couple’s next move is to sue for their legal fees.  This really seems like poetic justice in the aftermath of all the improper foreclosures we’ve read about.
