Links-R-Us, Vol. 15

Once again I find that my Link-Friday queue has filled itself up long before I have finished a blog entry filled with things of a little more substance.  For this, I am sorry.  Sometimes external factors related to ones’ own survival take precedence over the more cerebral items…  (Don’t take that wrong – nobody is trying to kill me and my family – we just seem to be putting out fire after fire after fire after fire after fire…).  There are a few thoughts that I have been working on for a while that I hope to turn into actual blog entries soon enough, but for now Link-Friday will need to surfice.
Our first link is to a PCMagazine article about RPG computer games of the 80’s.  Having played at least half of these games myself, the article really took me back to a more carefree time where my biggest stressor was related to what to do after school / work.  Enjoy.

Our next link comes from a KSL article about a 100 year old Eagle Scout being presented the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.  This fine individual has been volunteering as an adult leader since 1929.  So, in true scouting fashion, can we get a ”three how’s and a cool” cheer?  How-how-how-Cool!
Our next link is pretty scary to me.  It leads to an article about a bunch of co-workers who all chose to wear the same color shirt to work one day because they were going to hang out after work and wanted to be seen by outsiders as part of a group.  The scary part is that they were all fired for it.  (Yes, fired.)  It seems that the law firm that they worked for decided that because they were all wearing the same color shirts that they must be protesting something about work.  So, they fired them.  The article mentioned that because Florida is a “right to work” state, they have no recourse.  I was once fired without cause in a “right to work” state and as such definitely feel their pain.
This next article was one that made me say “Great job!” when I read it.  The makers of World of Warcraft decided that instead of just tossing their old server blades after an upgrade that they should auction them off to help St. Jude hospital.  I’ve gotta say that helping children in need rocks and this was a pretty unique way to do so!
Our last link is to an article I found on Mashable.  Apparently there are certain areas of Google Maps that various governments around the world do not want you to look at…  Really?  Who would have thought?  Anyway, this article lists 10 places that are censored.  Ones even located here in Utah…

Well, that's about it for this edition of Link-Friday.  I hope it was fun and informative.  Have a great weekend!
