Links-R-Us, Vol. 17

Welcome once again to Link-Friday.  It’s been too long since last I posted a blog entry, but I am grateful for all of you who loyally continue to follow me despite my short-comings.  Thanks for being there.  And now, on with the links…
Once again it’s that time of the year when Forbes magazine publishes it list of the top fifteen wealthiest fictional characters.  Yes.  You heard me.  The magazine that’s famous for its lists of wealthy people making a list of wealthy fictitious characters.  You would think that with the challenging economic times we live in that they wouldn’t waste time with fluff and produce something a little more substantial that might assist someone who is struggling financially.  But, then again, if all you report is stuff about how bleak the economic horizon looks I guess you could use a moment of joviality to lighten the load.  In either case, I think that my rant is way too long and really serves no purpose…  Just sit back and enjoy their attempts to bring a smile to your face.
Our next link is to a story concerning the open house of the Kansas City LDS Temple.  What’s interesting is that this is an article written by a female Episcopal priest.  It was well written and factual – something that seems to be a rarity in the press.  I was quite impressed with her observations and ability to treat someplace that is so sacred to me in such a reverent and dignified manner.  My gratitude goes out to her for the respect that she showed me and my religion.
This link is to a website that I discovered the other day that talks about building a “real” Star Ship Enterprise over the next 20 years to explore our galaxy using today’s technology.  I’m no engineer or nuclear physicist so I really can’t tell you if it will work or not, but it seems to be plausible that it could.  Imagine 3 days to the Moon and 90 days to Mars.  (We’re not talking warp drive here…)  If workable and funded, it could revolutionize our ability to do manned exploration.
Our next link is about something fairly unbelievable.  This link is to a news story about a man who jumped into the river right before Niagara Falls, went over the falls and survived.  The prevailing thought is that he was attempting to commit suicide.  My thoughts are that this man definitely has something more that he is supposed to do with his life.  Hopefully he will take this second chance and use it in amazing ways.
Our final story is about the successful launch by SpaceX of their Falcon rocket carrying their Dragon payload module.  What a great achievement.  This is their third Falcon launch and second launch of Dragon.  Think about that a little bit.  Your second “full” mission and you’re carrying supplies to the International Space Station.  That says a lot about this company and their commitment to excellence.  With any luck, everything will continue to go well (like their first round of tests did yesterday) and in a couple of hours from now they will be docked at the ISS.  Fair winds and following seas, Dragon!
And so we come to a close on another Link-Friday.  May your holiday weekend also be filled with "fair winds and following seas."
