Links-R-Us, Vol. 3

Once again link Friday is upon us.  This is no ordinary link Friday, though.
Firstly, today is Veterans Day.  I just want to thank all the Veterans that are out there for their service to each one of us and to our country.  Your sacrifices are truly appreciated and I will forever be in you and your family’s debt.  Thank you!
And secondly, this is the one, the only, 11-11-11 link Friday.  What’s in a number you might ask?  I don’t know.  What I do know is that I’m old enough that I will never ever see an 11-11-11 date again in my lifetime.  So, on that note, cheers!

The first link that I bring to you today is about an event this Saturday – SATURDAY – SATURDAY and Sunday – SUNDAY – SUNDAY located at Randall’s Island, New York.  (Re-read the previous sentence in your best monster truck rally commercial voice – it’s a lot funnier – I promise!)  Imagine if you will 14 college students running around with a broom stuck between their legs chasing some guy dressed in a yellow jersey holding a tennis ball in the bottom of a yellow nylon sock.  If you haven’t been living under a rock (please, no Geico commercial quips) I’m sure you are thinking that this has something to do with a sport from the Harry Potter books.  Yup, you guessed it, it’s time for the World Quidditch Cup Championship.  If you look closely at this website, you might actually find the University of Utah listed as ranked number 26 in the world.
My next link is one that leaves somewhat of a sick feeling in your gut.  This is a link to a blog written by a mother who is analyzing a news article about a prank that went horribly wrong.  I totally see her points and wonder a lot of the same things she does.  All in all a good read that makes you think a lot and hopefully hug your children more often.  Oh, and I’ve also included the link to the original story.
Our next foray into the world of links is to an older online article about the “World’s Funniest Signs.”  When looking at slide 4 please read all of the signs.  Most people stop with the “Beware” sign.  I actually like the black sign in the middle more.
My last link this week is to the Disney Family.com website.  There are quite a few neat ideas here for children of all ages.  My oldest daughter and I hope to make some cupcakes this weekend and use one of their decoration ideas.
Well, that wraps up another link Friday.  Thanks for hanging out with me and I hope that you get some enjoyment from the links!
