Links-R-Us, Vol. 5

Once again Link Friday is upon us.  I must apologize for the lateness of this post (it is Saturday after all).  Instead of writing last night I spent the evening with my parents celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary (way to go, Mom & Dad!).  Hopefully that’s a good enough of an excuse that you’ll forgive my tardiness this time.  Now, on to the links!
Our first link is in commemoration of the annual “Black Friday” circus.  I found this article on the Toronto Suns’ website detailing this year’s carnage at Black Friday events.  I think that the best thing I took from this was that Black Friday was used by retailers to denote when their stores went from being in the red to black (financially).  Good luck with that…
My next offering is an article about a bakery in England that was sunk by Groupon.  If you sell a dozen cupcakes for $40 and you offer a “discount coupon” making the price $10 dollars…  Well, you get the idea.  I just have one question:  $40 for a dozen cupcakes?  Those cupcakes had better be made out of (insert your own opulence inspiring term – mine are either solid gold or Kobe beef) to cost that much!
Today’s next link delves into that land of untested but seems logical.  I was hoping to try some of it out last night, but I had a nine year old invade my bed while my wife and I were still watching a movie in the family room (he’s getting a wee-bit too big for me to carry up a flight of stairs to his room so my wife and I had a stay-cation in the guest room).  So with that disclaimer in place…here’s a tip for easier wake-ups in the morning.
Link number four today is to a booking photo.  I know this one is ancient news, but I stumbled across it for the first time this week.  Just remember, when deciding to commit a crime please plan ahead so that your barber will be done with the haircut before you’re arrested.
My last link this week is to a tribute written about Bil Keane (I’ve also included a link to his obituary).  Bil Keane was the artist who created the Family Circus comic strip.  After his recently passing this tribute was written and really expresses my thoughts about the man as well.  He left the world a better place by the humor he chose to highlight in everyday situations – and I’m a better person for it.  Thank you Bil.
And on that note we wrap up another link Friday, err… a… Saturday.
